Aerosol Mass Spectrometry

This topic is led by Professor Roy Harrison.

Instruments used for study of aerosols include:

Aerosol Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (ATOFMS)

  • This instrument determines the elemental and ionic composition of individual airborne particles in the size range 0.2-5 µm diameter.  Its applications are mainly in the area of aerosol source apportionment and atmospheric process studies.

Chemical Ionisation-Atmospheric Pressure Inlet-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometer (CI-APi-ToF-MS)

  • This instrument gives accurate mass data on molecules and clusters with a mass range of up to 1200 Th.  Its main application is in the field of aerosol nucleation studies
