Water flumes

Water researchThe Hydraulics Laboratory has dedicated equipment and water flumes for undertaking research in the areas of pipe-flow, open channel flow, sediment transport processes and wave mechanics.

Water engineering research has been undertaken at Birmingham for more than 30 years. As a result, we have over 600 complete sets of primary velocity and boundary shear stress data for flow in open channels or ducts of various cross sections and roughness.

Research is currently being carried out into flooding and in particular modelling where the patterns of how and where flooding might occur.
