Helena Dodd, a fourth year Chemistry undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham, has been shortlisted for a 2017 STEM inspiration Award for her work to mentor to mentor girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Birmingham.

In addition to studying chemistry, Helena currently serves as president of WISE Birmingham, a non-profit University organisation with the aim of supporting and promoting women within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at the University of Birmingham.

The STEM Inspiration Awards are a free award scheme, designed to celebrate individuals and organisations working to inspire young people in STEM subjects.  Helena, along with this year's other nominees, will be attending an event at the House of Lords in October, where the winners will be announced. 

Earlier this  year, Helena won an Outreach Award 2017 at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences' EPS Awards, in recognition of WISE Birmingham's work to support and promote women within STEM.
