Buying and renting in Birmingham
With the largest professional and financial sector outside of London, Birmingham is an ideal place to buy or rent property. Not surprisingly, there are over 200 estate agents in Birmingham and you can usually find one or more in most area high streets.
The Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme aims to accredit good landlords and provide them with the knowledge they require to maintain their properties to an acceptable standard. You may also find it useful to use online property search providers and websites such as upmystreet.com when considering where to live.
University staff accommodation ranges from one-bed flats to four-bed houses and cottages situated near or on university campus. All flats are fully furnished. Kitchens are equipped with a cooker, fridge/freezer, and a washing machine. We provide limited crockery and kitchen equipment. Bedding and towels are not provided. The tenancy agreement is for a six-month period and in exceptional circumstances may be renewed for a further six months.
All properties have telephone points and TV aerials, but tenants are responsible for connections, bills, licences, etc. The monthly rent includes the water rates. Tenants are responsible for payment of Council Tax, gas and electricity bills where applicable. A month’s rent is required in advance.
