    Why Bioinformatics at Birmingham?

    The future of biology is bioinformatics! As one of the fastest growing industrial and academic fields in the UK and beyond, this course will help to prepare you to interact with the world’s most advanced biological and clinical datasets.

    You will learn how to analyse predominant major omics data-types and explore the frontiers of biosciences, from precision medicine, to precision agriculture, and emerging fields including molecular ecosystems biology and topological data analysis.

    University Hospital Birmingham is a major contributor to the 100,000 Genomes Project, which is closely integrated with our MSc in Bioinformatics.

Entry requirements

We welcome students from a range of backgrounds including those who have a 2:1 or equivalent degree in biology, mathematics, computer science or other relevant subjects.

The University will consider students who hold a Bachelors degree of four years duration from a recognised university in the UAE. Holders of a Bachelors degree will normally be expected to have achieved a GPA of 3.0/4, 3.75/5 or 75% for 2:1 equivalency or 2.8/4, 3.5/5 or 70% for 2:2 equivalency.

    Where will your degree take you?

    The programme is designed for wet-bench biologists and clinicians interested in data analysis, as well as statisticians or computer scientists wishing to work in biology for studies in modern bioinformatics.

    After graduating, a large proportion of students go on to study a PhD or undertake research for pharmaceutical companies, governmental institutions and medical publications. Other potential roles for graduates include bioinformatician, bioinformatics analyst, pharmaceutical scientist, biostatistician, medical data scientist and medical AI architect.
