On Campus: Postgraduate Discovery Days

Join us on campus to find out more about studying with us

If you are interested in postgraduate study at Birmingham, you can visit us at one of our Postgraduate Discovery Days to chat with our staff, current students and to tour our facilities.

Postgraduate Discovery Day

Date: Thursday 23 January 2025

Time: 1pm-3.30pm

If you can't make it along to an open day then a Postgraduate Discovery Day is an alternative way to explore our beautiful campus and facilities whilst getting to find out more about the courses you're interested in. Our current postgraduate students and a range of our student support services will answer any questions you may have about the student experience at Birmingham and how we can support you.

Use our below form to select the date you want to visit our campus, and then select the sessions that you would like to attend. When you see a session you'd like to attend, click 'view session information' to find out more. The overall event timings are 1.00pm - 3.30pm but you only need to arrive for when your first session starts. You should head to the Alan Walters Building to meet our current students, staff and student support teams to begin your Postgraduate Discovery Day.

Travelling to campus

Please read our advice about getting to our Edgbaston Campus. We have our own train station at the University which is around 7 minutes from Birmingham New Street as well as plenty of bus connections. If you are driving to the University, then there are a number of pay and display car parks that you can use. We recommend the North East Car Park (Sat Nav postcode B15 2SA, pay and display charges apply), however parking on campus is extremely limited and visitors to campus are requested to visit us using public transport wherever possible.

Important information for postgraduate campus tours

  • Postgraduate campus tours begin at 1.30pm and 2.30pm, and will last approximately 45 minutes. These are separate to any other subject-specific tours being offered that will show you the facilities available to you in our buildings.
  • Our tours will highlight key buildings and locations important to all postgraduate students studying with us and will not take you inside any subject-specific buildings nor accommodation.
  • All tours are led by student ambassadors who are current postgraduate students and will be able to give you an insight into postgraduate study, and life in Birmingham. However, it is unlikely that the ambassador leading your tour will be from the course you are interested in.
  • The entirety of your tour will take place outside, so please check the weather forecast and come prepared for any weather by wearing suitable clothing and footwear.
  • There will be toilet facilities and catering facilities available across campus in our buildings.
  • Spaces are limited on our sessions to ensure that all guests can enjoy their visit thoroughly so early booking is advised. If you need to amend or cancel any of your bookings, you can do this via your personal RSVP page that will be emailed to you upon booking confirmation.
  • If you or anyone accompanying you has any accessibility requirements, please advise us when booking your place. This will allow us to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure your visit is as easy as possible.
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, we may be forced to cancel campus tours at relatively short notice. We will contact you via email if things need to change for any reason.
  • When you book a Postgraduate Discovery Day, you will receive a confirmation email for each session you have booked. Nearer to the date and time of your session(s), we will send you another email reminding you of all the details you need, such as information on where the tour will depart from.
