The MSc Artificial Intelligence is a 12-month full-time programme, combining advanced taught modules with a substantial supervised project. It builds on your existing skills to give you the depth of knowledge and confidence to succeed in a world where AI is increasingly pervasive.
In this term you will study core principles of Artificial Intelligence and develop the advanced skills needed to work with data-intensive AI systems. Through compulsory modules you will explore the methods and techniques that underpin AI, building a strong technical foundation that will support your later specialisation. You will also begin to select optional modules, allowing you to shape your studies around areas such as computer vision, natural language processing or intelligent interactive systems.
Teaching is delivered through lectures and laboratory classes, with assessment provided through a mixture of coursework and examinations. Coursework is typically completed during the term and exams in the main summer exam period.
This term gives you the opportunity to deepen your expertise by choosing from a wide range of advanced optional modules. These cover topics such as neural computation, evolutionary computation, machine learning and predictive modelling, and intelligent interactive systems.
This flexibility enables you to explore the areas of AI that most interest you, while continuing to develop the critical and analytical skills needed to design and evaluate intelligent systems.
After the main summer exam period, the summer is devoted to your project, where you will work closely with an academic supervisor on an extended piece of research or applied work.
The project may involve developing new algorithms, applying AI techniques to solve real-world challenges, or contributing to ongoing research within the School of Computer Science.
It is a substantial part of the programme, allowing you to demonstrate independence, originality and technical expertise.
