Course overview
The Perio-Endo-Restorative Interface course focuses on managing complex endodontic cases, including retreatment, surgical procedures, the perio-endo relationship, and the restoration of root-treated teeth.
Toward the end of the course, students will also explore research methods, statistics, and clinical study design in preparation for future modules. In addition, you'll participate in a monthly journal club covering relevant topics and attend monthly tutorials, each led by a guest lecturer who will provide expert insights and address student questions.
Course delivery
The course involves a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, practical classes/workshops, guided independent study, and monthly journal club.
Content
On completion, you should be able to:
- Understanding the concept of success and failure in endodontics.
- Awareness of the importance and methods available in restoration of endodontically treated teeth highlighting the importance of the coronal seal in long term success.
- Understanding the relationship between endodontic and periodontal disease and how such lesions should be managed.
- Knowledge of risk factors for iatrogenic damage and how this can be repaired.

Assessment
- 3-hour open book exam (75% weighting)
- Case write-up - 2,000 words. You'll need to write up a case relevant to this course. The case write up should be 1500 words and around 500 words need to be dedicated to reflections/critic of the management strategy utilised and how the knowledge gained has helped you enhance your knowledge and clinical practice. (25% weighting)
