Course overview
The Root Canal Therapy short course covers all the aspects of endodontic therapy from access cavity preparation to canal preparation and disinfection and obturation.
During this course, a variety of contemporary evidence-based methods and techniques will be described and discussed offering you a wide range of understanding of the options available and the ability to adapt the different methodologies for the different clinical cases you will manage.
Course delivery
This course is composed of a series of lectures. As well as the lectures you'll will undertake a number of independent clinical hours and study related to the topic.
Content
On completion, you should be able to:
- Plan a clinical case identified during the clinical practice aspect of this module, identifying complexity and understanding how techniques that they have learnt can be applied to this scenario.
- Plan and discuss the rationale in adopting the correct access cavity and have knowledge on canal location and strategies for canal identification
- Critically review techniques and protocols available to produce consistent tapered root canal preparations.
- Discuss the reasons and methodology for obturating the root canal and the advantages and disadvantages of the different techniques available.
- Understand the roles and variety of irrigants and lubricants available for canal preparation, and the use of disinfectants in managing endodontic infections.

Assessment
Case write up - 2,00o words. You'll need to write up a case relevant to this course. The case write up should be 1500 words and around 500 words need to be dedicated to reflections on the management strategy and how the knowledge gained has helped you enhance your practice.
