Microcredentials
Postgraduate Microcredentials allow you to gain skills without committing to a full degree.
Our microcredentials are designed to support you to upskill or reskill for work in rapidly-growing industries, without the time and financial commitment of a full degree. Your microcredential can stand alone as an independent credential, and some also offer academic credit to use towards a full Masters degree.

What is a Microcredential?
Microcredentials are short courses that are typically taught over a period of 8 - 12 weeks. Courses typically include content from modules that form part of existing Masters degree programmes at Birmingham. These are offered as microcredential options and you will often attend these lectures alongside full Masters students. You can also gain an official University of Birmingham award and credits when courses have been successfully completed.
Why choose a Postgraduate Microcredential?
How will I study?
Microcredentials have a total study time of 100 to 150 hours, and offer flexibility to study around your existing commitments with several start dates throughout the year. Delivered online or in-person, you will have access to our online learning platform, course materials, and required reading materials. Plus you'll have the same access to our student support and campus facilities as our students on full degree programmes in Edgbaston and Dubai, including our library, careers network and wellbeing services.

Using your Microcredential for further study
After completing your Microcredential, you will gain an official University of Birmingham Postgraduate Microcredential award and credits. Microcredentials are designed to be transferable, so you can use the academic credits from a microcredential towards a relevant Master's degree at Birmingham or other universities. You can also use the credit as one of the credentials listed on your application form or your CV when you apply for a job.
Gain alumni status
Once completing your Microcredential, you'll also be given alumni status for the University of Birmingham, meaning you'll have access to our ongoing career support, alumni networks, and events.
