Frequently asked questions

What is a Career Development Mentor?

The Career Development Mentoring Programme combines alumni engagement, employability development and competitive scholarship support for high-performing postgraduate applicants from India.

We are offering one-to-one career development meetings with distinguished University of Birmingham alumni from India, who will provide industry insight and practical career guidance. In the UK, this role is what we call a mentor: an experienced professional who supports your career development.

You will also have the chance to develop greater clarity around your career direction, leadership potential and employability.

The strongest applicants may also be awarded a £5,000 tuition fee scholarship.

How long is the programme?

The programme will begin in November 2026 and includes six one-to-one meetings with your mentor over a six-month period. These meetings will take place virtually via video calls.

How much is the scholarship worth?

There are three awards available, each worth £5,000 as a tuition fee reduction.

Will all students who join the programme receive a scholarship?

No. The mentoring programme is linked to the scholarship promotion, but the scholarship is competitive and only three awards are available.

Can this scholarship be combined with other scholarships?

This scholarship cannot be held in conjunction the Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarship for India, or the Future Skills Scholarship.

However, the scholarship can be combined with the Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship and the India Birmingham Connect Scholarship. The Birmingham Connect Scholarship is an event-based scholarship, available exclusively to those attending in-person offer holder events in India.

When reviewing and accepting scholarships, please review the terms and conditions for each scholarship as they may differ. Please notify the team issuing your scholarship of your acceptance or rejection as applies.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline is 15 June 2026 at 23:59 BST. The University reserves the right to close applications earlier if required.
