Overview of how we support schools and colleges
Explore some of the ways we support, advise and engage with schools and colleges
At the University of Birmingham, we support the integral role that schools, colleges and teachers play in inspiring and educating the next generation of prospective students.
We provide a selection of support to schools, colleges and teachers/advisers to help your students consider their higher education options for the next step after they leave school/college. This includes:
- Offering information, guidance and assistance to ensure students choose the right courses and opportunities for their future and have the most informed answers to all their questions.
- Participating in higher education fairs and exhibitions in schools and colleges all across the UK to interact with students and offer them advice, answer any questions and offer reassurance.
- Motivating and informing students through a range of presentations to Year 12 students and their parents/carers. These are tailored to audiences and designed to be engaging, impactful and applicable to wherever your students are considering applying to university.
If you would like to invite us to your school or college, email us at studentrecruitment@contacts.bham.ac.uk. However, we are a small team with numerous requests so we can't guarantee attendance at every event but we will do our best to accommodate to your request.
Explore our campus
Visit us at an Open Day
Discovering and exploring our campus is the perfect way for students to get a feel for university life. They can attend subject and general presentations, view a selection of accommodations and talk with academic staff and current students. To arrange to bring a group of your students to an Open Day, please email our Open Day team.
Virtual campus tour
Additionally, students can take a tour of campus from the comfort of their homes. Our campus has been digitalised to explore study spaces, sports grounds and social areas at the click of a button.
Register for a campus tour
Guided by student ambassadors, this is a great way for students to explore our campus and find out about student life at the University of Birmingham. Campus tours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and individual students need to book themselves onto a tour.
Talk to us
Chat with our students
Your pupils can also chat with our students about courses, campus, facilities and the city. They can also read some of our student blogs on all aspects of university life from questions to ask at open days to preparing for exams.
Higher education fairs and exhibitions
A great way to get some questions answered is at an exhibition or fair. Our trained and helpful staff will help, offer guidance and come equipped with all the information students need to make informed choices about their next chapter.
As well as UCAS Discovery Exhibitions, we will also be attending some of the UKUniSearch Fairs for you to bring your students along to.
Experience university life and adjust to academic learning
National Access Summer School
This widening participation scheme offers insight into university student life with taster lectures, social experiences and the chance to stay in university accommodation. It is for students who meet certain widening participation criteria and live outside the West Midlands area. To discuss the programme further with a member of the Outreach team, send an email to nass@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
Support with study skills
Use Skills4uni to develop interactive study skills. This will help sixth form students in project planning, research, writing and presenting their work.
Additionally, our academic skills webpage is a great resource to assist students in making the transition to university study and writing.
