JMCC PLUS was created in 2022 as a new open access journal of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR*). It is the sister journal to the established Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology with a current impact factor of 5.763.

The focus of JMCC PLUS is on robust scientific validity and high technical quality. In addition to mechanistic research it also considers rigorously tested negative results, replication studies, studies repeating key experiments in different model systems and datasets generated from functional or multi-omics studies as resource papers. Authors of selected papers are also given an opportunity to present their work during ISHR-JMCC webinars.

Upon being appointed, Dr Pavlovic, who is an Associate Professor in Cariodiovascular Sciences at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham, said: "I am really proud of what we have achieved so far and I am excited about the future of JMCC PLUS.  We hope to build a recognisable brand for the journal, founded on solid, reproducible work, openness to new ideas and willingness to challenge dogma.

It has been just over a year since we started JMCC PLUS and I would like to thank Professor Rong Tian, previous Editor in Chief, for the incredible support and for helping us get the journal set up and indexed. I am also looking forward to working with Professor Rebekah Gundry from University of Nebraska, our new Deputy Editor.

We have some exciting plans that will help us build JMCC PLUS’s brand and identity. Whilst we are looking to publish manuscripts describing novel mechanistic insights into cardiovascular disease, we will not be constrained by the sole focus on impact factor. In support of this, we have just launched an open call for manuscripts reporting on negative data and reproducibility studies. We hope to build a recognisable brand for the journal, founded on solid, reproducible work, openness to new ideas and willingness to challenge dogma."

*The ISHR was established in 1968 and is made up of over 3,000 members in 7 international sections (Australasian, Chinese, European, Indian, Japanese, Latin American and North American).

I am really proud of what we have achieved so far, and I am excited about its future...We hope to build a recognisable brand for the journal, founded on solid, reproducible work, openness to new ideas and willingness to challenge dogma.
