Dancing the Dow: A matter of Truth and Knowledge boundary challenges in a contemporary world of 'climate change deniers' and 'fake news

This workshop will explore and challenge accounting as number-crunching and narrative storytelling, for accounting must first name what it counts in what are therefore embodied non-narrative statements – not a million miles from dance. The project explores the apparent boundaries of seemingly different or even oppositional forms of knowledge and truth telling. The workshop will also approach accounting and dance as initial examples, where disciplinary ‘opposites’ can then be approached as structurally similar ways of knowing and acting in and on the world, so dissolving the apparent boundaries of knowledge forms. By constructing ‘translations’ of accounting into other forms of embodiment (e.g. music and dance), and seeking to challenge the view of accounting purely as a form of disembodiment, we hope to build connections to research in seemingly distinct and disparate disciplines.
