Dr Juliane Kloess

Lecturer in Forensic Psychology

Juliane Kloess

Juliane is one of our former BEAR Champions and is no longer at the University of Birmingham.

What is your Academic background and current research field?

I am a Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at the Centre for Applied Psychology in the School of Psychology. My research background is the sexual exploitation and abuse of children via Internet technologies, with a particular focus on the nature of offending behavior online, ‘sexual grooming’, and child sexual abuse imagery. I am a qualitative researcher.

Which BEAR Services have been most helpful to you in your research?

  • BEAR DataShare for sharing files with a professional transcription service [Note from Editor: BEAR DataShare is now retired - see this KB article for alternative options]
  • BEAR Research Data Store for secure storage of sensitive research data

I have also found BEAR Research Data Store to be really useful for PGR research projects I supervise. It allows students to access their RDS securely via remote access (which is especially important as a lot of them work on their research off-campus), and all research data is securely archived upon completion of the research degree.

How widespread to you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?

We have organised and delivered workshops, both for staff and students, within the Centre for Applied Psychology, so I think BEAR Services are now well-known within CAP. We are currently in the process of developing best practice guidance for our students. We have really valued the collaboration with the BEAR Team and their help in making BEAR familiar and accessible to our staff and students.
