Melanie Roxby-Mackey

Melanie is one of our former BEAR Champions.

What is your Academic background and current research field?

I'm an archaeologist working on border landscapes over the longue durée. My work is concerned with how evidence from the past can be used to help us make sense of how we live alongside each other today, how we can bring time-depth to contemporary border landscape studies.

Which BEAR services have been most helpful to you in your research?

Undoubtedly having access to 25GB of synchronised file storage through BEAR DataShare. [Note from Editor: BEAR DataShare is now retired - see this KB article for alternative options.]

How widespread do you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?

It's surprising how many people haven't heard of BEAR. Aside from offering to host BEAR events and distributing leaflets, I'm working on liaising with the Digital Humanities networks in the College of Arts and Law to spread the word.
