Fostering financial resilience and wellbeing: what does it take, and who is responsible?

Recent macro-economic shocks such as Brexit, Covid 19 and the Ukraine war are having a detrimental impact on the financial wellbeing of low-income households and vulnerable groups, while more longstanding inequalities like the gender pension gap and low take up of financial products among some ethnic groups remain equally important issues. The ability to deal with income fluctuations, recover quickly from financial shocks, and secure future financial security is increasingly essential against this backdrop of growing economic uncertainty and declining public provision.

This year’s conference shines a light on financial resilience and wellbeing. We raise critical questions about the suitability and effectiveness of individualised solutions (e.g. through savings schemes, affordable credit, cash flow management and education) and on where the balance of responsibility should lie between state, market and individual.

Join CHASM, alongside distinguished keynote speakers Professor Tom Shapiro (Brandeis University, Massachusetts), Michelle Highman (Chief Executive, The Money Charity) and the Finance Innovation Lab, to discuss and exchange ideas on these highly topical issues and learn about our most recent research on financial resilience and wellbeing.
