Develop in-depth knowledge in the field of cardiovascular research while gaining practical experience by working with a leading research group in our renowned Department of Cardiovascular Sciences.
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, as reported by the World Health Organization.
On our MRes, you'll develop an extensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying these conditions. You'll also explore the cutting-edge research driving advances in this field.
This course offers you a unique opportunity to engage with cardiovascular research and begin shaping your own future in biomedical science.
Being able to join a cardiovascular research group and gain hands-on experience made Birmingham the right place to take that first step towards becoming a researcher.
This course will run over 12 months, full-time. While the exact content may change, here’s what you can expect to study each term. This is based on a full time Masters course.
In the first term, you'll undertake two taught modules to ensure that you have a basic grounding in all aspects of the field and to introduce the topics and research questions on which your projects are to be based.
In the second term, after consulting with potential supervisors you'll select an eight-month, laboratory-based research project. You'll then become part of a research group in the Department of Cardiovascular Science, working full-time on your project to produce a research thesis.
In the third term you'll continue to work on your laboratory-based research project.
Our programme immerses you in the fascinating world of cardiovascular research. You’ll investigate molecular, physiological, and pathological processes that regulate cardiovascular homeostasis in both health and disease.
