Course overview
The Practical Aspects of the Perio-Endo-Restorative Interface course offers hands-on training in evidence-based endodontic surgery, retreatment, and advanced restoration of root-filled teeth.
The course also covers advanced restoration of root-filled teeth, including when to use posts or full-coverage restorations. Additionally, you'll engage in clinical case discussions and begin developing a research proposal or clinical study related to the course content.

The Practical Aspects of the Perio-Endo-Restorative Interface course includes revision lectures, tutorials, and hands-on training.
Course delivery
Residential Week: Tutorials are delivered online, as outlined in Appendix 1, with practical sessions held during an intensive residential week.
Practical sessions focus on current, evidence-based approaches to endodontic surgery. You'll learn and perform a variety of techniques for managing failed endodontic cases, using both surgical and non-surgical methods to treat periapical inflammation.
Content
On completion, you should be able to:
- Understand the handling of the soft and hard tissues in apical surgery.
- Have knowledge of the use of the operating microscope for surgery and complex cases.
- Understand the options for tooth restoration.
- Understand the clinical indications for dental post use.

Assessment
- Practical – 50%
- Unseen case – 25%
- Journal presentation – 25%
The practical will be undertaken over 3 hours and will include a reflection of the session. The unseen case will be undertaken over 15 minutes of exam with 15 minutes of preparation. The journal presentation will be 15 minutes with 10 minutes of questions.
