Research Summary

Aimee joined the Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research in October 2014 as part of the CDT. Prior to this, she graduated from the University of Liverpool in June 2014 with her masters degree in Physics.

The aim of her current research is to investigate Manganese Oxide- Graphene Oxide hybrid catalyst supports for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) and Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFCs).

She is funded through the EPSRC CDT  in Fuel Cells and their fuels: EP/L015749/1.

Qualifications

Masters (Hons) in Physics, University of Liverpool. (4 year MPhys, 2014)

Biography

Aimee graduated from her MPhys degree in 2014. During the course of her degree, she spent 3 months at Unilever, Port Sunlight, investigating mixing of emulsions. For her master’s project, she was based in the Surface Science Research Centre at the University of Liverpool, and was imaging trisiloxane superspreaders.  Her project focused on imaging the superspreading action using techniques including AFM, STM and RAS.

Research

Aimee’s research focuses on Manganese Oxide - Graphene Oxide (MnOx-GO) catalyst support materials for low temperature fuel cells (including DMFCs and PEFCs). Her aim is to produce a support which aids the platinum catalyst by improving durability and increasing resistance to poisoning. She will achieve this through synthesising various MnOx-GO supports which will then be characterised by various material characterisations and electrochemical tests.

Her main areas of interest are materials characterisation and electrochemistry.

Other activities

Aimee has a keen interest in public engagement and outreach and has been a STEM ambassador since 2012. She is also a qualified Brownie leader with Girlguiding UK.
