The Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education hosted a 21st celebration for its successful MSc Railway Systems Engineering and Integration programme at the University of Birmingham [Friday 4 –Saturday 5 December 2015].

Current and former staff, students and alumni gathered to celebrate the success of graduates involved in the programme from both past and present.

The programme attracts a calibre of students each year in the UK and internationally. Over 1000 graduates who have completed MSc Railway Engineering programmes, diplomas, certificates and CPD courses at the University are now leading the global railway industry. Graduates have gone on to work on major projects such as building a new metro line in Sao Paulo and Lima, re-building Peru’s railways and work on the London Underground. 

The celebration included a variety of presentations by researchers, alumni and current students reporting on their projects and achievements, tours of the Centre’s laboratories and an opportunity to network.

Key speakers included:

  • Professor Clive Roberts, Director - Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education
  • Professor Felix Schmid, Director of Education – Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education
  • Alain Sauvant, École des Ponts ParisTech
  • Amanda White, Head of Rail, Transport for Greater Manchester

The event concluded with an evening dinner at the Birmingham Council House.

Professor Felix Schmid, Director of Education at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, said:
