Thomas Kappas
Senior Pool Research Software Engineer
Thomas, known as Makis, holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an M.Sc. with distinction in Applied Mathematical Sciences from the National Technical University of Athens.
With his background in applied mathematics, Makis worked for 3 years as a Research Software Engineer for the University of Leicester, where he developed machine learning models and supported researchers in accelerating their High Performance Computing workloads, mainly using CUDA. He also led the weekly Software Surgeries, as well as Python and Version Control courses.
His research interests include, among others, numerical methods, parallel computing and machine learning.
He joined the Research Software Group in January 2023 as a Senior RSE.
